How The Panda Update Affected Affiliate Sites
Date: 2014-08-15 09:53:11

Back in May, many websites, that Google deemed as ‘poor’ in quality found themselves ranking much lower in search results. The reason for this is that Google released it's latest Panda 4.0 algorithm.

This affects affiliates, as the lower your search engine ranking, the less traffic you receive the less sales you will potentially make. Losing traffic as discussed in one of our earlier resource articles on entitled, Making Money Online The Right Way.

What happened?

Google rolled out their Panda 4.0 update, which is part of their drive to improve the quality and relevance of web pages in displays in its results. This was the fourth major Panda update to date.

What has been the impact of this latest change?

The impact on websites due to the latest change to Google’s algorithm is that websites with irrelevant and poor spammy content were pushed lower down in the results pages.

As an affiliate it’s essential to know what Google’s definition of a high quality page is and how search engines differentiate high from low quality pages. In order to do that we need to look at all the ranking factors which contribute to an authoritative website.

Google gives hints to which factors matter, and recently released another update which says SSL or Encrypted websites would gain a ranking boost in the SERPS (Search Engine Results Page), but is it worth it?

SSL certificates costs a lot of money and if you are employing Blackhat tactics to rank then it will cost you a fair sum of money.

Some key ways to ensure your website ranks high, are as follows:

1. Look at your site and ask yourself if you as a visitor would trust the information presented in your articles.
2. Do your topics drive genuine interest for your reader’s?
3. Does the article provide a detailed description and provide answers your readers are searching for? Think about what people are searching for and provide the answers, naturally relating to your keywords.
4.Make sure that when creating new content for your website, you write original content.
5. Forget spinning articles, as this will be extremely detrimental to your rankings.
6. Would you want to bookmark the page, share it or recommend it?

If all else fails, give the Panda a lottery ball and send him on his way… and never forget that Google is a service, wanting to serve up the most authoritative and relevant result to the customer.

Good luck!
